Book VIII Chapter 1-8
00:26 1 Dmitri, hoping Grushenka will marry him, needs to repay Katerina Ivanovna’s 3,000 roubles. He offers Samsonov property rights for cash, but Samsonov tricks him, sending him to Lyagavy, a merchant negotiating with Fyodor.
26:26 2 Dmitri pawns his watch, travels to meet a merchant for the copse deal, but finds him drunk. Unable to sober him, Dmitri waits a day, then returns as the merchant stays incapacitated.
42:37 3 Dmitri seeks a loan from Madame Hohlakov, who refuses, suggesting gold mines. He looks for Grushenka, but she’s gone; the servant’s no help. Furious, he grabs a pestle, rushing to his father’s house.
1:08:20 4 Dmitri spies on his father, thinking Grushenka is there, but she isn’t. Caught sneaking out, he strikes Grigory with a pestle. Fleeing, he learns Grushenka has gone to see her first lover.
1:21:49 5 Dmitri learns Grushenka’s with her first lover, ending his hopes. Planning to see her once before suicide, he retrieves pistols, buys food and wine, and heads to her location, blood-stained with money.
1:56:18 6 Dmitri is in luck: Grushenka is indeed staying where he was directed. He rushes to her rooms and greatly shocks Grushenka.
2:13:38 7 Grushenka welcomes Dmitri, his wine livens the party. Her ex, Mussyalovitch, cheats at cards and insults her. Provoked and tricked by Dmitri, M leaves, locking the door, upsetting Grushenka.
2:49:39 8 Grushenka loves only Dmitri during a lively celebration. Troubled by striking Grigory and debts, Dmitri discusses their future. Officers interrupt, charging him with his father’s murder, and arrest him.
