你不覺得那太過正式了？
- I've noticed Taiwanese women are quite fashion- conscious.
- Yes, they do tend to dress rather formally, don't they?
- Mmmm. I always feel underdressed.
- 我注意到台灣女性都很注重流行。
- 對啊，而且她們往往穿得十分正式，你不覺得嗎?
- 嗯。害我每次都覺得自己穿得太隨便了。
小常識
時尚的說法很多，美國最有名的時尚雜誌之一是Vogue，前流行歌曲天后瑪丹娜也唱過一首歌叫 Vogue。只是大多數台灣人好像只認識fashion這個字，而且還 常把這個名詞當作形容詞用，例如說:「妳今天穿得好 fashion喔!」(應該是fashionable)，這種說法其實是不對的。事實上，fashion這個字所指的重點仍然是服裝，而描寫其他事物的流行時尚，則有vogue, trend, fad, rage等說法。

形容一個人對流行敏感，可以用fashion-conscious，其中 的conscious 是形容詞，意思是「能察覺的」，這個字還可以 解釋成「有意的」，請看下面的例句:
Governments have to make conscious efforts to preserve our natural environment.
(政府應該認清現實，努力維護自然環境。)
Of course I didn't do it consciously. It was a mistake.
(我當然不是有意的。這是一時疏忽。)
They do tend to~的動詞tend，是「往往容易~」的意 思，它的名詞+tendency也很常用:
I have a tendency to spend too much.
(我很容易花費過度。)
